Copyright Registration

When there is an original work that has been created and a copyright has been applied to this work it then has copyright protection, with this it ensures that no one can legally copy your work and if they have you will have legal recourse.

When thought of this way it is worth every penny that is paid for copyright protection that out lasts your life span and the thought that your work will remain yours for many years for your family, children, grand children, great grandchildren and even great-great grandchildren can have the treasure of knowing this was your work, your thoughts and what you felt important enough to pass to others as your work with your name.

With copyright protection it affords the copyright holder the right to file a law suite against anyone who might infringe on this copyright by using some or all of the copyright protected work. Although in many cases these type of suits can take a long amount of time to have your day in court, but it does allow anyone else who may have thoughts of using your work to portray as theirs they will think twice if they know the copyright holder is vigilant about protecting their work.

A bright spot in the copyright process is that once you have obtained your copyright and your work has copyright protection it is a protection that will not only last your lifetime but for seventy years after your death for a work that is by two authors or using a pen name to register your work.

Copyright protection gives the artist or writer a feeling of peace that they are not going to find their work anyplace except for where they have placed it be it the Internet, a bookstore, a music store or anyplace. This is a comforting thought and should you find someone else has posted it on a place such as the Internet you can request they take it down and you have the legal right to request this action. You have paid for the right to keep your work your own to sell copies of or to hold as a personal item and it has copyright protection including if you decide to place your written words in book form and sell them those who purchase your book, music or what ever you have copyright protection on they can not use it as theirs even though they have paid for the item and this carries on for the life of the copyright protection even after the author has died.

Copyright protection does not mean that it will stop people from using your original work but they can be prosecuted for it under law and you have proof that this is your work and not anyone else's by having a copyright.

When a work is copyrighted and the authors name is used to copyright this work the copyright will last ninety-five years after the authors death or one hundred and twenty years depending on which is of shorter duration.
